Murmansk to Host Northwestern Federal District Wushu Championship in February
Wushu competitions will take place in the Arctic capital on February 21-22 at the Murmansk city athletics arena, hosting the Northwestern Federal District Championship. The Center for Sports Training of the Murmansk region announced the event, with the tournament opening on Saturday at 2:00 PM followed by qualifying matches after the official welcoming ceremony.
On the following day, February 22, semifinals and finals will be held at 11:00 AM, with organizers awarding champions and prize winners at 4:00 PM. Approximately 180 athletes are expected to participate in the tournament, representing the Arctic region, St. Petersburg, Leningrad and Vologda oblasts, as well as other regions of the Russian Federation.
Medals will be contested in the sanda discipline. Men and women, juniors aged 16-17 and 18-20, as well as teenagers in the 12-13 and 14-15 age categories are invited to compete. The championship represents a significant event for wushu development in Russia's northwestern regions, bringing together competitors from across multiple federal subjects.
The event showcases the growing popularity of wushu in Russia's northern territories and provides an important competitive platform for athletes seeking advancement in the sport at regional and national levels.
