Mexican wushu athlete Marcos López Camarillo, from the Comarca Lagunera region of Coahuila, Mexico, delivered an impressive performance at an international wushu competition in Haikou, Hainan, China, winning three medals: two gold and one silver.

Representing Coahuila with the support of the state’s sports institute, INEDEC, López Camarillo competed on September 25 and 26 at an event that brought together more than 1,500 athletes from over 15 countries.

The Mexican athlete won gold medals in the barehand and staff events, while taking silver in the saber competition. His three-medal haul added another international achievement to a competitive career built through years of training and competition in Chinese martial arts.

Known in the martial arts community by the nickname “The Great Dragon,” López Camarillo developed his wushu skills under the guidance of his father and coach, shifu Alfredo López Rodríguez. Their long-term training has played an important role in his development as a competitive athlete.

Beyond competing, López Camarillo is also helping develop the next generation of martial artists. He currently works as an instructor at Centro Marcial Gimnasio Torreón, located at Unidad Deportiva Torreón, where he passes on his experience and knowledge to younger practitioners.

His latest results in China add two international gold medals and a silver to a career that already includes national and international competitions and championships. The performance also highlights the growing participation of athletes from Mexico and Latin America on the international wushu scene.
