Shaanxi Youth Sanda League Opens in Xi’an
The 2026 Shaanxi Youth Wushu Sanda Club League opened on October 5 at Dafeng Pavilion Square beside Hancheng Lake in Xi’an, bringing together 261 athletes, coaches and team leaders from 36 clubs across the province. The three-day event provides a platform for young athletes to compete, exchange experience and develop their skills.
The competition features Youth and Junior divisions. The Youth category includes boys’ weight classes from 42kg to 70kg and girls’ divisions from 42kg to 60kg, while the Junior category offers seven weight classes for both boys and girls from 39kg to 60kg.
Now in its second year at Hancheng Lake, the tournament combines Wushu competition with the area’s rich historical and cultural setting. Organizers say the approach aims to connect traditional culture with modern sport while promoting Sanda among young people.
National-level referee Mao Nongxuan praised the athletes’ improving technical and tactical abilities, noting that 14 referees were selected from across Shaanxi, including seven national-level officials. The league is also expected to help young athletes gain competitive experience and provide a pathway for identifying future talent for provincial teams.
