Indonesian wushu legend and national team coach Lindswell Kwok has urged Indonesia’s Chef de Mission for the 2026 Asian Games, Todotua Pasaribu, to prioritize the mental well-being of the country’s wushu athletes as they prepare to compete in Japan. Speaking during Pasaribu’s visit to the national wushu training camp in Jakarta, Lindswell emphasized that psychological readiness is just as important as physical preparation in an individual sport like wushu.

"The most important thing is actually the athletes' psychological condition. Their confidence in the competition arena is greatly influenced by the preparation built long before the event. For a sport like wushu, where athletes compete individually, mental readiness is extremely important," said Lindswell. 

The five-time world champion added that confidence is strengthened when athletes feel fully supported and have all their needs met before competition.

Drawing from her own international experience, Lindswell explained that proper training camps, quality equipment, and well-organized preparations can significantly improve an athlete’s mindset. 

"When we trained abroad with complete equipment, prepared uniforms, and everything organized properly, entering the competition arena felt completely different. Athletes are much more mentally prepared than when they only train at home," she said.

Lindswell also highlighted the importance of athlete services such as accommodation, transportation, and logistical support, saying these details allow competitors to stay focused on performance. Pasaribu welcomed the feedback, stating that input from current and former athletes is essential in building an effective support system for Indonesia’s Asian Games delegation.

According to Pasaribu, visits to national training camps are designed not only to monitor athletic progress but also to better understand athletes' needs through direct discussion. He stressed that the Chef de Mission's responsibility goes beyond organizing the delegation, ensuring every athlete receives the support necessary to concentrate fully on winning medals at the 2026 Asian Games.
