The International Wushu Tournament “Memory” officially opened at the Sports and Fitness Complex in Ulan-Ude, commemorating the 81st anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War. The event brings together young athletes from Buryatia, Zabaykalsky Krai, and China in a celebration of sport and international friendship.

The Chinese delegation is led by Li Yanjun, president of the Wushu and Health Qigong Federation of Manzhouli. During the opening ceremony, Buryatia Sports Minister Ivan Kozyrev praised the development of wushu in the republic, stating, 

“Today our Wushu Federation in the Republic of Buryatia has achieved strong development. Without a doubt, this is the work of Igor Vasilyevich and his coaching team.”

Competitors between the ages of 6 and 17 are taking part in multiple disciplines, including bare-hand routines, short weapons, long weapons, traditional wushu, and other categories. Events feature performances with staffs, spears, and other traditional equipment.

The opening ceremony began with a parade of participants followed by the Russian national anthem, creating a formal and celebratory atmosphere for the international event.

Competition continues on May 23 with matches and demonstrations in wushu taolu, traditional kung fu, and Yongchunquan, running throughout the day at the sports complex in Ulan-Ude.
