Egypt Crowned Champions at 7th African Youth Wushu Kung Fu Championship
Egypt claimed the overall title at the 7th African Youth and Junior Wushu Kung Fu Championship, held at the Arab Contractors Club in Cairo from February 10-13. The host nation dominated the competition with 43 medals — 35 gold and 9 silver — to secure the championship trophy ahead of rivals from across the continent.
In sanda, Egypt collected 7 gold and 3 silver medals, while taolu events proved even more fruitful with 28 gold and 6 silver. Egypt topped both the sanda and taolu standings, with Tunisia finishing second in both disciplines. Senegal took third in sanda and Morocco third in taolu. In the overall team rankings, Tunisia placed second and Benin third behind the dominant Egyptian squad.
Sherif Mostafa, President of the Egyptian, Arab, and African Wushu Federations and Vice President of the International Wushu Federation, praised all participating nations for their sportsmanship and competitive spirit. "This achievement reflects the tremendous effort from our athletes and technical staff. We had great confidence in our champions before the tournament, and they delivered by raising Egypt's name high against very strong competition," he said.
Mostafa also commended the organization of the event: "Hosting the championship in Cairo was a proud moment that reflects Egypt's standing and ability to host major continental events. We thank everyone who contributed to its success."
Looking ahead, Mostafa emphasized that preparations for international competitions will intensify. "Our ambitions don't stop at Africa's borders. We promise Egyptian fans that we will continue working to maintain Egypt's leadership in wushu kung fu and achieve new accomplishments for Egyptian sport," he concluded.
