Competition Schedule Released: Four Days of Action at the 5th World Taijiquan Championships in Burgas
The official competition schedule for the 5th World Taijiquan Championships has been announced, outlining four intense days of competition at Sports Hall "Mladost" in Burgas from 26 to 29 April 2026.
With the Opening Ceremony on the evening of 25 April, the 5th World Taijiquan Championships will move into its competitive phase the following morning. Four full days of competition await, structured across eight sessions - two per day - and split between two fields of play (FOP 1 and FOP 2) running in parallel throughout the event.
Each competition day begins at 8:30 in the morning and resumes at 14:30 in the afternoon, with Awards Ceremonies following every session.
The schedule reflects the scale of the championships, covering all five classical styles of taijiquan - Chen, Yang, Wu, Sun and Wu (Hao) - alongside the full programme of set routines, optional routines, weapons events (taijijian and taijishan), and the New Standardized Routines introduced by the International Wushu Federation in recent years. The closing block of the final session is reserved for the Jiti group routines, where national teams perform synchronised choreography to music - traditionally one of the most visually captivating moments of any World Taijiquan Championships.
Day 1 - Sunday, 26 April
The championship opens with the men's and women's 1st Set Taijiquan (42) and the men's and women's Taijiquan (24), alongside the Wu Style Taijiquan (45) events in the morning session. The afternoon session continues with the 1st Set Taijijian (42) and the Yang Style Taijiquan (40), spread across both fields.
Day 2 - Monday, 27 April
Day two brings the Optional Taijiquan events, the Chen Style Taijiquan (56), and the Sun Style Taijiquan to FOP 1 and FOP 2 in the morning. In the afternoon, athletes compete in the 3rd Set Taijiquan (36), the New Standardized Routines for Chen Style Taijiquan, the Wu (Hao) Style Taijiquan, and the first of the Chen and Yang Style Taijijian weapons events.
Day 3 - Tuesday, 28 April
The third day is dedicated largely to weapons. The morning session features the 3rd Set Taijishan (40), the Taijijian (32) and the New Standardized Routines for Chen and Yang Style Taijijian. The afternoon brings the Optional Taijijian, additional New Standardized Routines for Yang Style Taijiquan, the Wu Style Taijiquan, and the 1st Set Taijijian (42).
Day 4 - Wednesday, 29 April
The closing day opens with the Optional Taijishan, the Sun Style Taijiquan (73), the Wu (Hao) Style Taijiquan (46), the Yang Style Taijiquan, and the Sun Style Taijijian. The final afternoon session is the culmination of the championships, featuring the New Standardized Routines for Yang Style Taijiquan and Taijijian, the 3rd Set Taijijian (39), the Chen Style Taijiquan, the Wu (Hao) Style Taijijian - and the Jiti group routines, which traditionally close the event.
Two categories, two formats
As explained by Petar Dragoev of the Bulgarian Wushu Federation in a recent interview with euwushu.tv, each event is divided into two distinct formats. Championship Events (marked "C" in the schedule) follow standard international rules, with gold, silver and bronze medals awarded to the top three competitors in each group. Demonstration Events (marked "D") are judged on a percentage basis - the top 10% receive gold-level recognition, followed by silver and bronze tiers. Only the Championship Events count toward the official world rankings.
