Malaysia's wushu queen, Tan Cheong Min, has set the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games as her biggest career mission as she hunts for her first Asian Games gold medal to complete her collection of achievements on the international stage. The 28-year-old athlete emphasized that all focus is now solely on preparations for the prestigious event, even as Chinese New Year celebrations approach.

"Right now our focus is only one, which is the Asian Games. This championship is very important to me and I'm giving full attention to training," said the Melaka-born athlete.

Cheong Min is considered one of Malaysia's most successful wushu athletes, thanks to her consistent achievements at the world level, including four Wushu World Championship gold medals and a historic gold at the Chengdu 2025 World Games. At the SEA Games stage, she has proven absolute dominance by sweeping two golds in Thailand 2025 and Cambodia 2023, in addition to winning the Nandao event at the 2024 Asian Wushu Championship.

However, an Asian Games gold medal remains the only major title missing from her collection after only securing silver in the overall Nanquan-Nandao at the Hangzhou 2022 edition. Discussing the challenges at Aichi-Nagoya, Cheong Min acknowledged that competition is expected to be fiercer due to the competition format combining two events for one medal.

"Wushu is indeed challenging. When two events are combined for one medal, the pressure becomes higher. Competition in Asia is very strong," she said.

Nevertheless, she believes opportunities remain open despite facing powerhouses like China.

"China is indeed strong, but in competition anything can happen. Mistakes can occur and the impossible can become reality. We will keep fighting," she said.

Her determination reflects the mindset of a champion ready to overcome any obstacle to achieve her ultimate goal.

With her impressive track record and unwavering dedication, Cheong Min enters the Asian Games as one of Malaysia's brightest medal hopes, carrying the nation's aspirations for wushu glory on the continental stage.
