India's 35th Senior National Wushu Championship will take place in Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh, from 9 to 15 December 2026, with the state government pledging full support as the region prepares to co-host the 2027 National Games.

India's 35th Senior National Wushu Championship will be held in Itanagar, the capital of Arunachal Pradesh, from 9 to 15 December 2026. The state's wushu body has now secured the backing of the regional government for the week-long national event.

A delegation of the All Arunachal Pradesh Wushu Association (AAPWA), led by president Tach Tadar and general secretary John Tara Bakey, met Chief Minister Pema Khandu in Itanagar on Thursday, 5 November, to brief him on preparations and the needs of the organising committee. The group also included chief advisor Toko Teki, other office bearers and members of the organising committee.

According to a statement from the association, Khandu promised full support and cooperation from the state government, including help with any problems that arise during the event. He also accepted an invitation to attend the closing ceremony as chief guest.

A stepping stone to the 2027 National Games

The timing matters for the host state. Arunachal Pradesh and Meghalaya will co-host the 39th National Games in 2027, and AAPWA sees the senior nationals as a key platform to measure athletes' form, identify talent and select players for that multi-sport event. The association described the championship as an important step towards building a strong, competitive state wushu team for the National Games.
