Valeria Dudamel Takes Changquan Silver at Dakar 2026, Venezuela's First Wushu Medal at an Olympic Event
Coached by her father Hernando, Venezuela's Valeria Dudamel scored a career-first 9-plus in gunshu (9.246) on her way to silver in the women's changquan combined at Dakar 2026, with a total of 18.199.
Venezuela left its mark on wushu's Olympic debut. Valeria Dudamel won silver in the women's changquan combined at the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games on 3 November, finishing behind Egypt's Sondos Sonbol and ahead of India's Rajkumari Lanchenbi Chanu.
Dudamel's total of 18.199 was built in the morning session. After working with her father and coach, Hernando Dudamel, on the flaws in her preliminary routines, she scored 9.246 in gunshu (staff), the first time she has gone above nine points at an international competition, according to Venezuela's sports ministry. Only Sonbol scored higher in that routine, with 9.330.

Holding on in changquan
In the evening changquan routine Dudamel scored 8.953. Rajkumari Lanchenbi Chanu won that routine with 9.316, but her combined 18.039 left her 0.160 short of the Venezuelan, and she took bronze, India's first wushu medal at an Olympic event.
The silver was Venezuela's second medal in Dakar, after Rosalvick Aguilar's bronze in judo, and the country's first silver of these Games.
