North Sumatra finished as the overall champion at the 3rd Sumatra Junior Wushu Taolu Championship, held in Medan and concluding on September 5. The North Sumatra Wushu Indonesia team dominated the medal standings with 85 medals: 34 gold, 28 silver and 23 bronze.

Jambi finished second with 69 medals, including 25 gold, 28 silver and 16 bronze, while Malaysia’s Persatuan Akademik Wushu Ipoh from Perak took third with 45 medals.

North Sumatra Wushu Indonesia president Irwan Kwok praised the hundreds of young athletes who competed throughout the championship. 

“This championship is very important as a platform for young athletes to gain competition experience and measure the results of the development work carried out so far,” he said.

Kwok emphasized that the event was about more than winning medals, highlighting the importance of developing discipline, sportsmanship, competitive mentality and perseverance from a young age. The championship is expected to contribute to the development of future athletes capable of competing at national and international level.
