Vietnam's national wushu team is set to compete at the fourth Wushu Taolu World Cup, taking place on July 7-8 in Haikou, Hainan Province, China, with the goal of winning gold medals. The squad features some of the country's top athletes, including former world champion Dương Thúy Vi, alongside Lê Quang Huy and Nguyễn Văn Sỹ.

The biennial tournament, organized by the International Wushu Federation, is regarded as the highest-level international taolu competition. Nearly 200 athletes from more than 30 countries and regions will compete across 11 events, with 22 gold medals available in disciplines such as changquan, nanquan, taijiquan, daoshu, and jianshu.

Dương Thúy Vi is expected to lead Vietnam's medal challenge.

"This is an important competition, as many of the world's top athletes will take part. The coaching staff will also use the event to evaluate the athletes' form as we continue preparations for the Asian Games," a team official said.

Thúy Vi won silver in the women's jianshu event at the 2024 Taolu World Cup and bronze in the same discipline at the 2024 Asian Wushu Championships. As the most experienced member of the current squad, she is expected to play a key role as Vietnam looks to build on its previous success, having won one gold medal and several other podium finishes in past editions of the World Cup.
