Vietnamese Wushu World Champion Banned for Doping Violation
Vietnamese sanda athlete Do Dat Huynh has received a two-year ban following a positive doping test at the 16th World Wushu Championships in Fort Worth, USA. The International Testing Agency (ITA) conducted the out-of-competition control on November 20, 2023, which revealed the presence of 5-methylhexan-2-amine (1,4-dimethylpentylamine), a stimulant prohibited in competition under the World Anti-Doping Agency's Prohibited List.
The substance is known to enhance concentration, alertness, energy levels, endurance, and metabolism. Do Dat Huynh did not contest the anti-doping rule violation and accepted the consequences proposed by the ITA.
His period of ineligibility began on February 15, 2024, and will conclude on February 14, 2026. All competitive results from November 20, 2023, onwards have been disqualified, including his gold medal in the men's 70kg category at the World Championships and his gold medal at the IWUF 10th Sanda World Cup held in China in April.
The decision may be appealed before the Court of Arbitration for Sport in accordance with IWUF anti-doping rules. The ITA has stated it will not comment further on the case.
