From 23 to 30 April 2026, the Bulgarian city of Burgas will host the 5th World Taijiquan Championships - the official biennial world championship of the International Wushu Federation (IWUF) dedicated to the discipline of Taijiquan, known in the West as Tai Chi Chuan. All competition and training will take place at the Sports Hall "Mladost", with competition days running from April 26 to 29 and the Opening Ceremony on the evening of April 25.

The championship has been held since 2013 and takes place every two years. The most recent edition, held in Singapore in 2024, drew over 320 participants from 32 countries and regions across five continents. Burgas now takes on that mantle, with the Bulgarian Wushu Federation serving as the local organising committee.

Taijiquan is widely considered the most practised martial art in the world today. Characterised by slow, graceful movement combined with explosive bursts of force, it demands total harmony of motion, breath, and concentration. Competition in Burgas will cover five classical styles - Chen, Yang, Wu, Sun, and Wu (Hao) - across Championship Events, Demonstration Events open to practitioners from age 10 to 69, and Jiti group routines performed by teams to accompanying music. Each national federation may enter up to 30 delegates, with athletes eligible to compete in up to three individual events plus one group routine.

Burgas is the fourth-largest city in Bulgaria and an important cultural and transport centre on the Black Sea coast. In late April the weather is mild, with daytime temperatures typically around 16–18°C. The famous resort of Sunny Beach lies 35 km away, and Burgas Airport is just 11 km from the city, with the organising committee providing free transfers to official hotels for all accredited participants.
