The 17th edition of the Spring Dragon Wushu International Tournament concluded with record participation, further cementing its reputation as one of the world's leading wushu events. Organized by Master Massimo Scalzo and the Central Wushu Academy of Catanzaro, the tournament brought together 568 athletes, 63 teams, and officials from 30 countries, including competitors from across Europe as well as the United States and Brazil.

For three days, the southern Italian city of Catanzaro became a global hub for wushu, hosting athletes ranging from beginners to international champions. The competition featured an exceptionally high technical standard, with participants competing across multiple disciplines in front of some of the sport's top international judges, whose presence added further prestige to the event.

Beyond competition, the Spring Dragon served as a cultural gathering point where athletes from different backgrounds, languages, and traditions came together through their shared passion for wushu. The tournament's unique atmosphere allowed young newcomers and elite competitors to share the same stage, creating valuable opportunities for learning, friendship, and personal development.

Organizers highlighted the use of some of the most advanced competition equipment available in the world, equipment rarely seen outside a handful of major international events. The tournament also generated a significant economic boost for the region, filling hotels and attracting hundreds of athletes, coaches, officials, and family members to Catanzaro and surrounding areas.

Master Massimo Scalzo credited the event's success to its founding vision of using wushu to unite people across cultures.

“The Spring Dragon was born from a clear vision: to use wushu as a tool for bringing people together. Seeing athletes, coaches, and judges from thirty different countries sharing the same passion here in Catanzaro is something extraordinary. This event continues to prove that sport can break down any cultural or linguistic barrier,” he said.

Organizers also thanked local institutions, sponsors, volunteers, and residents for helping make the 2026 edition one of the most successful in the tournament's history.
