Sochi Athletes Win 4 Gold Medals at Russian Wushu Championship
All-Russian wushu competitions in the taolu discipline were held in Moscow, with over 500 young athletes aged 7 to 14 competing for medals. Following the tournament, students from Sochi Sports School No. 22, as part of the Krasnodar Territory team, won a total of 9 medals of various distinctions.
Sochi female athletes achieved outstanding results. Eva Shcherbina won top medals in the taolu-dao shu discipline among girls aged 12-14. Kira Kotsofana achieved victory in the taolu-dao shu and taolu-gunshu disciplines and placed third in the taolu-changquan discipline among girls aged 7-8. Afina Paisanidi won bronze in the taolu-dao shu discipline among girls aged 9-11, and together with Maria Shkuropyatova, Afina Paisanidi won in the paired taolu-duilian qise discipline.
Among boys, silver medals in the taolu-duilian qise discipline were won by Sochi tandems David Eksuzyan and Alexander Kosenko in the 12-14 age category, as well as Albert Antsiferov and Mauris Shteger in the 9-11 age category. Alexander Kosenko placed third in the taolu-jianshu discipline among boys aged 12-14.
Anatoly Miroshnikov, director of the Department of Physical Culture and Sports of the Sochi administration, congratulated the young wushu masters and their mentors on their brilliant performance at the Russian Championship.
"This success is a natural result of hard training, discipline and willpower. We understand perfectly well that behind each prize place stands colossal daily work, and we are sincerely proud that such talented and purposeful athletes are growing up in Sochi. About 120 people practice wushu at the resort, more than 80 of them are children. Our task is to do everything so that conditions are created for their development," he noted, adding words of gratitude to parents and fans for their support.
On March 12, the Russian Championship among juniors will begin, with athletes aged 15-17 participating in tournaments. On March 17, qualifying competitions will be held in Moscow for participation in the finals of the 2026 Summer Spartakiad of Russian Students.
