The China Cultural Center in Yangon hosted a China-Myanmar wushu exchange event on June 2, bringing together students, martial artists, families, and cultural enthusiasts. Organized with the support of several educational and sports organizations, the event featured wushu demonstrations, cultural performances, and interactive activities aimed at strengthening friendship and mutual understanding between the two countries.

Martial arts masters, practitioners, and student groups showcased a variety of wushu styles, while Chinese dance performances added to the celebration. The event attracted students, parents, and Chinese language learners who were interested in experiencing Chinese culture firsthand.

Among the performers was 10-year-old Khant Hein Win, who had been training at the China Cultural Center for about three months. Making his first public appearance, he said,

“I feel very happy performing wushu here. It is the first time for me.”

His father, Ko Naing Win, explained that he encourages his children to gain a wide range of experiences and learn wushu for self-defense, while also emphasizing the importance of Chinese language education and the long-standing friendship between China and Myanmar.

Fifteen-year-old Mya Phoo Ya Thaw of the Myanmar Wushu Federation also took part in the demonstrations. Having trained in wushu for around eight years, she said she originally started because of health problems.

“My lungs were weak. After practicing wushu, I no longer suffer from the lung issue,” she said.

She added that regular training has improved her strength, stamina, and overall physical fitness.

The event also inspired spectators, including 17-year-old Thian Rin Mawi, who attended for the first time.

“I like their performances,” she said

Adding that the event helped her better understand Chinese culture and encouraged her to consider learning wushu herself. Myanmar Wushu Federation Vice President U Nay Lin said such activities help strengthen friendship between the people of Myanmar and China and expressed hope that growing interest among young people will lead to the development of more talented athletes in the future.
