Buryatia's Young Wushu Athletes Claim Over 200 Medals at Far East Championship
Young athletes from Buryatia dominated the 20th Far Eastern Federal District Wushu Championship, winning a total of 211 medals. The competition took place in Blagoveshchensk from January 28-31, bringing together professionals from seven regions across Russia's Far East.
The Buryatia team, composed of students from Sports School No. 18 "Golden Dragon," outperformed strong competitors from Amur Oblast, Zabaykalsky Krai, Primorsky Krai, Khabarovsk Krai, and Yakutia. Their medal haul included 97 gold, 64 silver, and 50 bronze.
"Our team earned 97 gold, 64 silver, and 50 bronze medals. This is simply an amazing and impressive achievement that confirms the high level of preparation of our athletes," said Buryatia's Minister of Sport Ivan Kozyrev.
The success follows another strong showing by Buryatia's youth sports programs — the region's young judokas recently won 25 medals at the Far Eastern Federal District Judo Championship held in Ulan-Ude at the Patriot Combat Sports Center, which featured 240 athletes from ten regions.
