Fourteen athletes from Balneário Camboriú are competing at the 36th Brazilian Kung Fu Wushu Championships in Maceió, held from September 3 to 6. Coaches Lucas Sorin and Erick de Carvalho are also leading the Santa Catarina team.

Santa Catarina is the defending team champion in Sanda, with 18 athletes competing in the discipline this year, including 14 from Balneário Camboriú. Sorin is also competing as he targets the 10th national title of his career, which would make him the record holder for national championships.

Reflecting on his career, Sorin said:

“In 2009, I travelled 36 hours by bus to compete in my first National Championship in Cuiabá. I lost in the first round, but that experience changed my life.” He added that those early defeats continued for two years before helping shape his career.

Sorin now considers Team Sorin one of the strongest Wushu teams in Brazil and will look to lead the athletes toward another successful national championship.
