The "Wushu in Schools" project was initiated by Vologda Region Governor Georgy Filimonov in 2024 and is being implemented as part of the gubernatorial program "Strategy 2.0" in partnership with the Regional Public Organization "Sports Federation of Wushu of the Vologda Region." The project aims to promote harmonious physical and psychological development of schoolchildren through the practice of Eastern martial arts and introduction to China's centuries-old culture.

"Sections are operating in 10 schools across the region. In Vologda, classes are held at schools number 41, 8, 17, 11, and School 20 named after Hero of the Soviet Union V.K. Dolgov, while in Cherepovets they take place at schools 21, 9, 28, as well as the I.A. Milyutin Education Center and Elementary School 41," explained Ekaterina Tselikova, Deputy Governor and Minister of Education of the region. "Training sessions are conducted two hours per week in the format of additional education. They are led by specially trained teachers."

In the next academic year, 30 more schools in the region will join the project with physical education classes covering at least one hour per week. The number of participants will increase to 4,500 schoolchildren in lessons and 720 students in wushu sections.

Schools from Verkhovazhsky, Cherepovetsky, Vologodsky, Sokolsky, Vozhegodsky, Kharovsky, Gryazovetsky, and Sheksninsky districts will join the institutions in Vologda and Cherepovets. The expansion represents a significant growth in youth wushu development across the Vologda region, bringing traditional Chinese martial arts training to rural and urban communities alike.
