China’s Liu Dewen made a successful return to international Wushu competition after eight years, winning gold in the men’s Taijiquan and Taijijian all-around event at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games.

Liu scored 9.780 points in both Taijiquan and Taijijian, finishing with a combined 19.560 points to claim the title.

His last international appearance came at the 2018 World Taijiquan Championships. After struggling in domestic competitions the following year, Liu continued studying and training in Taijiquan before making his way back to the international stage.

Liu dedicated the gold medal to his mother, a former long-distance runner. He now has his sights set on next year’s World Championships and the 2028 World Cup as he pursues a career Grand Slam.
