Afghanistan Selects National Team for Asian Wushu Championships in Japan
Afghanistan’s national wushu team is preparing to compete at the 20th Asian Wushu Championships, set to take place in Japan this September. The Afghanistan Wushu Federation announced the squad following national selection trials held in Kabul for the sanda division.
The selected fighters include Shahzada in the 56 kg category, Hamed Sharifi in 65 kg, Mohammad Khalid Hotak in 70 kg, and Jafar Soltani in 75 kg. One additional athlete will still be chosen in the taolu discipline to complete the national team lineup.
Coaches Mohammad Mahfooz Wafa and Ehsan Ahmad Karokhi will travel with the team and oversee preparations in both sanda and taolu categories during the championship.
The Asian Wushu Championships will bring together athletes from across the continent to compete in multiple disciplines, making it one of the region’s most important events for the sport.
Despite ongoing challenges, Afghanistan continues to maintain a presence in international competition, with combat sports such as wushu, taekwondo, and martial arts remaining among the country’s strongest and most active sporting disciplines.
